LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has banned the issuance of handwritten receipts at restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and marriage halls across the province as part of measures to curb alleged tax evasion and bring greater transparency to the tax collection system.
On the directives of PRA Chairman Muazam Iqbal Sapra, commissioners in all districts have issued notifications regarding the new requirements.
According to the notifications, all hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and marriage halls are required to issue receipts through the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS).
Businesses failing to issue receipts through EIMS will face fines ranging from Rs400,000 to Rs1 million, while establishments that repeatedly violate the rules may also be sealed for up to one month.
The PRA has also warned of strict legal action in cases of interference in official duties, tampering with sales records or failure to provide the required records.
The notification also prohibits businesses from issuing kitchen order slips, unpaid bills or similar receipts to customers. Business establishments will instead be required to issue receipts containing the business name, address, receipt number and the Punjab Revenue Authority’s QR code.
The notifications have been issued across all districts of Punjab on the directives of PRA Chairman Muazam Iqbal Sapra.
According to PRA officials, the measure aims to bring transparency to the tax collection system, digitize sales records and prevent tax evasion.
