China has refused to recognise India’s claim over Arunachal Pradesh, saying the area it calls Zangnan is part of Chinese territory, it was reported on Wednesday.
According to the channel report, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said during a press briefing that Zangnan was Chinese territory.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman also said attempts to give Indian names to places that have Chinese names were unlawful.
China refers to the region as Southern Tibet and considers it part of the Tibet Autonomous Region.
India, however, administers the area as the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh and considers it an integral part of the country.
The dispute is linked to the border between China and India. Beijing does not recognise the McMahon Line, which was agreed during the 1914 Simla Convention as a boundary between Tibet and British India.
India maintains that Arunachal Pradesh is a permanent part of its territory and points to its administration, laws and the local population as the basis for its position.
The two countries have also repeatedly disagreed over the names of places in the disputed region.
China has issued standardised Chinese and Tibetan names for locations there, while India has used its own maps and place names to reinforce its administration of the area.
