Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said on Wednesday that the incident that took place on Rawalpindi’s Mall Road was the consequence of PTI’s politics of hatred and division.
Addressing a press conference, he said that the party had been told time and again to shun its politics of confrontation, but in vain.
He was of the opinion that the PTI leadership could not absolve itself of the responsibility by saying that it was an individual act of a party worker. “Security forces retaliated in self-defence,” the minister said, adding nobody could serve the country as well as the nation through violence and use of abusive language.
He questioned if the PTI worker was mentally disturbed, then why did not he attack himself and his own family?
An armed man, allegedly belonging to PTI, was killed after he allegedly opened fire on security forces, injuring a patrolling officer on Mall Road in Rawalpindi, the city police said on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the Rawalpindi police spokesperson, the incident took place at around 11:15am when an armed man, identified as Muhammad Hussain, opened fire at security forces, resulting in an injury to a personnel.
Security forces retaliated and killed the attacker,” the Rawalpindi police spokesperson said.
The statement went on to say that law-enforcement agencies remained fully prepared and committed to tackling all forms of terrorism and preventing activities aimed at creating unrest.
