Talks between the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance and the federal and Sindh governments have ended without an agreement, with the nationwide goods transport strike continuing on Friday.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Riaz and Sindh provincial ministers took part in the negotiations with representatives of the transporters.
All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan said further talks would be held with the Sindh government on parking plots and other issues.
He said the demands presented to Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs had been accepted, but a deadlock remained with the federal government over other matters as well as with the Punjab and Sindh governments.
Awan called on goods transporters across Pakistan to remain peaceful and said they would soon receive good news.
Muhammad Owais Chaudhry, president of the Goods Transport Owners Association, said the nationwide strike by goods transporters was continuing.
He rejected reports that the strike was about to end, describing claims and what he called propaganda about ending the strike as government tactics aimed at weakening the protest.
Owais Chaudhry said goods transport vehicles across Pakistan remained parked and that not a single vehicle was available for loading at the country’s ports.
He said the strike was completely peaceful and that transporters remained united over their demands. Chaudhry warned that the strike would not end until the transporters’ demands were accepted.
