PM calls for faster digitalization of govt institutions

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Information Technology Board to pay special attention to providing citizens with easy, efficient and modern digital services.

He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad today to review ongoing reforms in the National Information Technology Board (NITB) and progress on the construction of Islamabad Technology Park.

The Prime Minister further directed all relevant institutions to work in a coordinated manner to ensure timely, transparent and convenient digital services for the people. He said facilitating citizens in obtaining government services is a key priority of the government. He directed that all government digital platforms be further improved in line with contemporary requirements.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that the transition of federal ministries to e-office is among the most important reforms undertaken in the field of IT and digitalization. He directed that the use of e-office be ensured across all subordinate departments and state-owned enterprises of the federal government.

The Prime Minister also called for expediting the digitalization of government institutions and making maximum use of modern technologies. He directed that the digitization of records of all government properties be completed at the earliest.

Expressing displeasure over the delay in the completion of Islamabad Technology Park, Shehbaz Sharif directed that its construction be completed at the earliest and the facility be made operational on a priority basis. He further directed that the operation of Islamabad Technology Park be completely outsourced.

The meeting was informed that the NITB has already been right-sized and appointments to key positions are being made in a transparent manner. It was also apprised that all federal ministries have been shifted to the e-office system, while work is underway to promote its use in other departments and state-owned enterprises.

A briefing was also given on the progress of construction of Islamabad Technology Park.
