France condemns Afghan Taliban’s human rights violations

France has strongly condemned the human rights violations in Afghanistan as the country marks five years since the Taliban took control, saying international concern over the situation remains high, it was reported on Wednesday.

The French Foreign Ministry said Afghanistan had been facing deep humanitarian, economic and security crises under the Taliban regime. It warned that the situation was continuing to deteriorate and could also pose a threat to regional stability.

France said the Taliban were introducing further discriminatory measures aimed at excluding women from public life. The restrictions have continued to limit the rights and opportunities of Afghan women and girls.

The French Foreign Ministry said there was little prospect of normal relations with the Taliban until they respected human rights and took effective steps to end terrorism.

The statement comes as Afghanistan enters the fifth year of Taliban rule amid continued international concern over the country’s humanitarian and economic conditions and the treatment of women and girls.
