The government has withdrawn Pakistan Telecommunications Reorganisation Amendment (PTRA) Bill from the Senate, saying a new and comprehensive legislation will be introduced soon.
Acting Senate Chairman Manzoor Kakar chaired the session when Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, instead of federal IT minister, tabled a motion in the House for taking back PTRA Bill.
IT Minister Shiza Fatima said the bill was withdrawn in order to pace up the legal process and avoid any delay. “After including all necessary and back points, a new and comprehensive bill be tabled in the House,” she added.
Earlier, the IT Ministry filed an application in the Senate for taking back the bill.
According to Shiza Fatima, the 90-day legal period for the bill was about to lapse, so it was decided to withdraw the legislation. Had they not withdrawn it, the bill would have moved on to the joint session of the Parliament, of which there was no sign of it at the moment, she maintained.
