The Japanese government has approved a grant of ¥21 million (about $142,500) to the Dupsy Foundation to purchase equipment and a vehicle to support tuberculosis (TB) screening in Pakistan, it was reported on Tuesday.
According to a press release, the grant agreement was signed today by Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Akira Amakatsu and a representative of the Dupsy Foundation.
The Dupsy Foundation has been working for several years to provide basic healthcare services to underserved communities in Pakistan.
Under the project, the foundation will deploy a fully equipped mobile health unit in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Chakwal district.
The mobile unit will provide digital chest X-rays, TB screening, family planning counselling, and basic healthcare services to people in underserved areas.
The project will also introduce a compact X-ray system supported by artificial intelligence (AI) for TB screening.
The initiative aims to provide high-quality medical screening to around 20,000 people every year.
Japanese Ambassador Akira Amakatsu said early diagnosis was directly linked to saving lives and protecting families from the risk of disease.
He said the project would also contribute to further strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Japan and Pakistan.
