Bilal, Natalie Baker discuss digital asset rules

ISLAMABAD: The United States and Pakistan have increased discussions on regulating digital assets as Islamabad works to build a stronger framework for the rapidly developing virtual asset sector.

US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker met Minister of State and Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority chief Bilal Bin Saqib on Sunday. The meeting focused on recent developments in Pakistan’s digital asset regulatory landscape.

Bilal briefed the US diplomat on Pakistan’s progress in developing the virtual assets sector. He also outlined efforts to establish a modern and transparent regulatory system for digital assets.

The discussions covered the wider digital economy as well. Both sides examined issues linked to innovation, financial transparency and responsible growth in the sector.

The engagement comes as Pakistan seeks to bring its virtual asset market closer to international regulatory practices. A clear framework is expected to provide greater transparency and strengthen safeguards within the emerging digital finance industry.

The two sides also discussed the importance of creating an environment that can support technological innovation while maintaining financial oversight. Effective regulation could help provide clearer rules for businesses and investors operating in the digital asset space.

Pakistan has been working to develop institutional mechanisms for regulating virtual assets. The creation of a dedicated regulatory authority is part of these efforts.
