The federal government has increased the price of petrol by Rs4.61 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs1.96 per litre.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the new petrol price has been increased from Rs389.14 to Rs393.75 per litre.
Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced from Rs424.04 to Rs422.08 per litre.
The revised prices have been implemented from September 22.
The latest adjustment means motorists using petrol will have to pay more for fuel, while consumers relying on diesel will receive a comparatively small reduction in the per-litre price.
The Petroleum Division issued the notification after the latest review of petroleum prices. The changes will apply across the country under the revised pricing structure.
The increase in petrol prices is expected to raise fuel costs for private vehicles and other petrol-powered transport. The reduction in diesel prices, meanwhile, could provide some relief to sectors and transport operators that rely heavily on diesel.
The government periodically reviews petroleum prices in line with changes in international oil prices and other relevant factors. The latest adjustment has resulted in opposite movements in the prices of petrol and diesel.
