Four candidates elected unopposed to vacant AJK Council seats

All four candidates for the vacant seats of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council have been elected unopposed after no additional candidates entered the contest.

The Azad Kashmir Election Commission has issued an official notification confirming the election of Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas, Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed and Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed as members of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council.

Under the election schedule, nomination papers for the four vacant seats were submitted on October 1.

Only four candidates filed nomination papers for the four available seats, bringing the electoral process to an end without a contest.

Three candidates from the Pakistan Muslim League-N — Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed, Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed and Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas — submitted their nomination papers.

Former Azad Kashmir Assembly speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar submitted his nomination papers on behalf of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

According to the Election Commission notification, all four candidates were declared elected on the basis of results received from the Returning Officer.

Polling for the four seats had originally been scheduled for October 12, 2026.

However, as there were exactly four candidates for the four seats and all nomination papers were found to be in order, polling was no longer required.

With the completion of the process, the four vacant seats of the Azad Kashmir Council have been filled, with three going to PML-N candidates and one to the PPP.
