NCCIA establishes special units to counter fake news, anti-state propaganda

ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has established special units to tackle fake news and anti-state propaganda, while cyber patrolling units have been activated across all regions to monitor cyberspace.

An NCCIA spokesperson said Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi recently completed a five-day visit to the agency’s circles across Punjab. During the tour, he inspected reporting centres, police stations and offices and met more than 500 complainants.

Rizvi directed officials to make the complaint registration and verification process more accessible to citizens and ensure that available resources are used to provide timely relief.

The NCCIA director general said the agency had adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards fake news and anti-state propaganda, adding that merit and transparency would remain a priority.

During his visit, Rizvi reviewed pending cybercrime complaints, the performance of investigation branches, complaint cells and FIR sections, as well as record management and other administrative matters.

He instructed officials to improve their performance, ensure complaints and cases are processed promptly, conduct transparent investigations and keep records regularly updated.
