PDMA Punjab issues rain, thunderstorms alert from October 10 to 14

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a province wide weather alert, forecasting rain, strong winds and thunderstorms in several districts from October 10 to 14.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the country’s upper regions from Saturday, which will bring rain to most parts of Punjab.

Rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal and Mianwali from oOctober 10 to October 14.

Intermittent rain and thunderstorms are also forecast for Faisalabad, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh on October 10, 11 and 13.

PDMA DG Saif Anjum Jappa warned of possible landslides in Murree, Galyat and other hilly areas, directing commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain alert and take precautionary measures.

The Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government and Livestock departments have also been alerted to prepare for the expected weather conditions.

The PDMA urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay in safe places, avoid weak or mud houses and take shelter during storms and lightning with also parents need to keep children away from low lying water, power lines and utility poles.
