Fazlur Rehman rejects claims of role in Sohail Afridi’s arrest

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has rejected allegations that he played a role in the arrest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, it was reported on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media outside Parliament House today, Fazlur Rehman was asked about reports suggesting that he had helped facilitate Afridi’s arrest.

“Please do not make such absurd statements. This is the time to fulfil our responsibilities,” he replied, adding that senior journalists should show greater responsibility while reporting on sensitive political matters.

Fazlur Rehman said a meeting with opposition parties was scheduled to take place shortly.

He also praised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for honouring its commitment.

He said the JUI-F would announce its future course of action after a meeting of its central shura.

When another journalist asked what he had to say about the government repeatedly disappointing him, the JUI-F chief responded briefly: “You should ask the government.”
