Pakistan and Germany share historical and cultural connections: Musadik Malik

Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Musadik Malik while highlighting the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Germany, describing Germany as a major European partner of Pakistan, it was reported on Thursday.

Addressing a dinner marking German reunification, Musadik Malik conveyed greetings on behalf of the prime minister and said the two parts of Germany had reunited through the will of the people rather than pressure or force.

He described the reunification process, which he said took 11 months, as remarkable, adding that the two countries shared several historical and cultural connections.

The minister referred to Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s association with Germany, saying the poet and philosopher who envisioned Pakistan had studied the works of German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Heidelberg and pursued studies in Munich.

Musadik Malik also highlighted the contributions of Dr. Ruth Pfau, who dedicated her life to combating leprosy in Pakistan and established more than 100 leprosy centers across the country. He noted that she was honored with the Pakistani flag after her death.

The minister said Pakistan would meet the required standards for the European Union’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) arrangement. He reiterated the importance of Germany as a key partner for Pakistan in Europe.
