AJK and Pakistan separate territories, says IHC letter on judicial recruitment

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar has rejected a request by an Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) domicile holder seeking eligibility for recruitment as a civil judge or senior civil judge in Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV on Wednesday.

According to a letter issued by the IHC Examination Department, the applicant was informed that his request, presented before the chief justice on September 30, had been rejected.

The letter stated that the Islamabad Judicial Service Rules require candidates applying for the posts to be citizens of Pakistan. It further cited a judicial ruling stating that residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir do not meet the citizenship requirement for the recruitment process.

Referring to a Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir ruling, the letter described AJK and Pakistan as separate territories and stated that candidates holding AJK domicile were not eligible for the positions.

The applicant was consequently advised to seek a refund of the application fee.
