Punjab launches textile jobs initiative for trained rural women

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced employment opportunities for rural women in the textile industry under the provincial government’s SheThreads programme.

The initiative aims to equip women with practical skills and help them secure jobs in the industrial sector. According to the chief minister, 1,150 women have already completed training and obtained employment through the programme.

The government has set a target of training 2,500 women by June as part of efforts to expand the initiative and increase economic opportunities for women in rural areas.

Registration for the programme is currently underway. Selected participants will receive a monthly stipend of Rs15,000 during the three-month training period.

The training will focus on industrial sewing and apparel supervision, providing participants with skills required by the textile and garment manufacturing sector.

Women who successfully complete the course will be offered employment opportunities in the textile industry.

The SheThreads programme is intended to improve women’s access to vocational training and help them become financially independent through practical employment opportunities.

The initiative also seeks to connect trained rural women with industrial employers, allowing them to use their newly acquired skills to enter the formal workforce.
