Jannat Mirza, Pakistan’s most-followed TikToker and a prominent influencer, is once again at the centre of social media attention—this time for her Hajj journey.
The TikTok star recently shared glamorous pictures and videos with her family before departing for Hajj. While some fans sent her well wishes, others criticized her for turning a spiritual experience into a social media spectacle.
The controversy escalated after Jannat posted a video of what appeared to be an empty flight, captioning it: “We had the whole plane to ourselves.” She also gave followers a brief tour of the plane, sparking assumptions that the family had chartered a private flight. However, she later clarified that the flight was with Saudi Airlines and that she had previously seen an empty plane only during the COVID era.
Still, her comments didn’t sit well with many netizens. Some argued that business-class passengers are often boarded before economy, which could explain the empty seats in the footage. Others speculated that her father might have arranged the exclusive seating to provide privacy for his daughters, given their fame and social media presence.
The backlash was swift and sharp. “Is this Hajj or a show-off trip?” asked one social media user. Another added, “They should’ve taken along some underprivileged pilgrims if they had so much money.” Comments also questioned the family’s source of wealth, with one user saying, “After all, they have their TikTok income.” Another wrote, “May Allah guide them and show them the right path.”
Despite the criticism, Jannat Mirza has remained quiet since posting the video. However, the incident has reignited debate over how influencers use social media to portray religious rituals, with many urging celebrities to show humility and modesty, especially during spiritually significant journeys like Hajj.
