Reinstated members of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies, who were suspended last year, will now be paid their basic salaries for the period of suspension, according to parliamentary sources.
The decision comes after 77 lawmakers were suspended on May 13, 2024, due to legal or procedural reasons. Their salaries were halted immediately following the suspension notifications. However, the latest directive states that those who have now been reinstated after the Supreme Court verdict will be compensated for the duration of their suspension, albeit without any TADA (Travelling Allowance and Daily Allowance) or other perks.
Breakdown of reinstatement and salary details
Out of the 22 suspended National Assembly members, 19 have officially been reinstated, while three seats remain pending, sources said. These 19 reinstated MNAs will be paid a basic salary of Rs150,000 per member from May 13, 2024, to December 31, 2024.
From January 1, 2025, onwards, salaries will be adjusted in proportion to any applicable salary increases, and payments will continue until the date of the court decision that led to their reinstatement.
Similarly, 55 members of the provincial assemblies, who were also suspended on May 13, will receive their basic salaries in accordance with the salary structure defined in their respective provincial assembly acts.
No perks or allowances
While basic salaries will be disbursed, no TADA or other benefits will be paid for the duration of suspension, reaffirming the government’s stance on fiscal discipline while honouring the court’s reinstatement decision.
