Election Commission spokesperson has rejected Hamid Raza’s claim that the returning officer did not declare him as a candidate of the Sunni Ittehad Council, calling the allegation completely baseless.
According to the spokesperson, Hamid Raza had mentioned “Sunni Ittehad Council Alliance PTI” on his nomination papers. However, the Sunni Ittehad Council neither submitted an official alliance request nor applied for a unified election symbol.
The spokesperson further clarified that the declaration Hamid Raza submitted with his nomination papers was affiliated with PTI-Nazriati, and he did not attach the party ticket of the mentioned political group.
As per election rules, the Returning Officer assigned him the ‘Minar’ symbol, officially categorizing him as an independent candidate.
