Pakistan, Egypt strengthen defence ties during CJCSC visit

RAWALPINDI: General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), is on an official visit to Egypt for the third round of defence and security talks.

During his visit, he held key meetings with top Egyptian figures, including President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi; General Abdel Mageed Saqr, Minister of Defence and Military Production and Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces; and Admiral Osama Mounier Mohamed Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority.

According to Pakistani military’s media wing, the talks focused on enhancing bilateral military collaboration, with both sides expressing strong interest in expanding military-to-military cooperation. Areas of focus included joint training, exercises, and defence coordination. Discussions also covered regional security challenges and strategies for counter-terrorism, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

Visit to Al-Azhar

In a significant meeting with Professor Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, General Sahir highlighted the role of religious and interfaith harmony in addressing the root causes of extremism. Egyptian officials commended the professionalism of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in the global fight against terrorism.

Upon arrival at the Ministry of Defence, CJCSC was honoured with a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned out contingent of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
