ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Awam Pakistan Party chief Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has strongly criticised the current state of governance, stating that there is no rule of law, justice, or functioning judiciary in the country.
Speaking at the All Parties Conference in the federal capital on Friday, Abbasi said that the government is unwilling to grant basic rights to its citizens.
“Why are the youth picking up arms today,” he questioned. “Just look at the dire situation in Balochistan and the former FATA regions.”
He emphasised that even the funds that were once allocated to the merged districts are now being withheld. “There is no law, no justice, and no accountability in this country. Anyone can do as he pleases without consequences,” he added.
Abbasi highlighted that leaders of one political party have been handed punishments of 10 to 20 years, while secret trials and closed-door verdicts have become common.
“No one seems to care how this country will move forward. Only the constitution and rule of law can resolve the nation’s problems – there is no alternative,” he stated. “We must eliminate systemic injustice.”
He further pointed out the growing economic disparity: “The people are becoming poorer by the day, while the elite grow richer. The moment sugar exports begin, prices surge – and the farmer sees no benefit at all.”
