Daniel Day-Lewis ends retirement with film ‘Anemone’

Three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis is set to return to the screen in Anemone, his first film since 2017’s The Phantom Thread.

The feature marks the directorial debut of his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, and will premiere at the New York Film Festival next month.

Co-written by the father-son duo, the drama is set in northern England and follows two estranged brothers, played by Sean Bean and Day-Lewis, grappling with a troubled past marked by political and personal violence.

The cast also includes Samantha Morton, Samueal Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green. The film will be released by Focus Features later this year.

Anemone is an upcoming drama film directed by Ronan Day-Lewis in his feature debut. The screenplay has been co-written by Ronan and his father, acclaimed actor Daniel Day-Lewis.

Anemone will have its world premiere at the 2025 New York Film Festival. It is set for a limited theatrical release in the United States on October 3, 2025, by Focus Features, before expanding nationwide on October 10.
