Acting US Ambassador Natalie A Baker met with officials of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) in Islamabad on Saturday and discussed a variety of issues with them.

The meeting was attended by APTMA Chairman Kamran Arshad, Chairman North Asad Shafi, Vice Chairman Ahmed Shafi and others.
Expanding trade and investment relations and reducing trade deficit were also discussed in the meeting.
Chairman Kamran Arshad gave a detailed presentation on Pakistan’s textile industry.
Kamran Arshad said Pakistan’s local cotton production has declined in the past years and this year too, due to a poor cotton crop and a large amount of cotton will have to be imported.
Kamran Arshad said the US is the largest supplier of cotton to Pakistan and Pakistan is the largest importer of US cotton in the world.
Import of US cotton compensates for the loss in local cotton production, Kamran Arshad said.
