Five cops injured as DPO vehicle targeted in Bannu

Five policemen received critical injuries when terrorists opened fire on a vehicle carrying District Police Officer (DPO) South Waziristan in Bannu on Monday.

The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station in Bannu. DPO Waqar remained unhurt in the attack.

Soon after the incident, a heavy contingent of police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured policemen to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) in Bannu.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan also reached the DHQ Hospital to inquire about the well-being of the injured policemen.

Police started a search operation in Mamash Khel area of Bannu to arrest the terrorists.

Earlier on Sunday, a police convoy also came under attack in Hangu’s Doaba area, leaving three policemen, including a station house officer (SHO), injured.

The convoy was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED), followed by intense firing from unidentified assailants.

The police officials on board included SP Investigation Abdul Samad, DSP Tall Mujahid, and SHO Imranuddin. SHO Imranuddin and two other personnel sustained injuries in the blast.

Security officials said that an exchange of fire between police and attackers continued for some time after the explosion.

Additional contingents of law enforcement were dispatched to the area to engage the assailants and secure the site.

The injured officers were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while a search operation has been launched in the surrounding areas to trace the attackers.
