Modi faces fierce criticism in India over ‘Operation Sandur’ failure

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi came under sharp criticism from opposition leaders over his silence following the reported failure of ‘Operation Sandur’, a recent military offensive that ended in what critics described as an “embarrassing setback” for New Delhi.

According to Indian media and opposition figures, Modi’s continued silence after the operation, and over recent remarks by US President Donald Trump reportedly viewed as sympathetic to Pakistan, has sparked outrage across India and triggered accusations of weak leadership.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a blistering attack on the prime minister, calling him “a coward without vision.”

“It’s a fact that Narendra Modi cannot stand up to President Trump,” Gandhi said, demanding that Modi clarify whether Trump’s statements regarding Pakistan’s success were “based on truth or falsehood.”

The Congress leader further alleged that Modi himself was responsible for calling off Operation Sandur, a move Gandhi said had compromised India’s military credibility.

Another senior Congress figure, Supriya Shrinate, echoed Gandhi’s criticism, citing reports that, according to President Trump, seven Indian aircraft were shot down during the operation.

“Modi’s silence on Trump’s claim amounts to an admission,” Shrinate said. “The prime minister remains deeply afraid of Donald Trump, and because of his cowardice, India’s dignity is now at stake.”

Shrinate added that Modi’s inability to respond had caused “embarrassment and humiliation” for the country on the international stage.

Meanwhile, analysts said the fallout from ‘Operation Sandur’ described by defence sources as a failed offensive has intensified scrutiny of India’s military and foreign policy decisions under Modi’s leadership.
