Information Ministry accuses Afghan, Indian accounts of spreading false unrest claims in KP

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has accused Afghan and Indian social media accounts of spreading misleading claims about unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through AI-generated images, old footage and unrelated videos.

In a fact-check post on X, the ministry said social media accounts were circulating fabricated claims of unrest in the province by presenting unrelated incidents as evidence of chaos.

The ministry said the material included footage of factory fires, protests against electricity load shedding and videos from Syria, all shared with misleading captions to create an impression of unrest in KP.

It alleged that Afghan and Indian accounts were amplifying the claims in coordination with politically motivated social media accounts.

The ministry described the activity as a coordinated, foreign-driven propaganda campaign aimed at creating a false impression of the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“Truth prevails over falsehood,” the ministry said in its post.
