JI emir Hafiz Naeem rejects 27th Amendment

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that Pakistan was founded on the principle of Allah’s sovereignty, and the system must now be realigned with that vision. He categorically rejected the 27th Constitutional Amendment, declaring that granting judicial immunity to any individual is unIslamic.

In a statement, the JI chief emphasised that mutual consultation and dialogue among national stakeholders would prove beneficial for the country. He lamented that even after 78 years of independence, Pakistan’s governance system has not followed the path envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the founding fathers.

He noted that the creation of Pakistan was not an ordinary political movement but the result of immense sacrifices and aspirations. The Pakistan Movement, he said, was not confined to Muslim-majority areas — even those Muslims who knew they would have to abandon their homes and lands participated wholeheartedly, sacrificing everything, including their ancestral graves, for the sake of religion.

Hafiz Naeem reiterated that Muslims struggled for a state where Islamic justice and governance would prevail. Under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam, the Muslims of the subcontinent envisioned Pakistan on the foundation of divine sovereignty.

He stressed that the slogan “Pakistan ka matlab kya? La ilaha illallah” was not a mere chant but a declaration of a complete system of life. “No power, government, or nation other than Allah has the right to sovereignty,” he stated, adding that Pakistan was established on the belief in Islamic justice and collective equality.

He concluded that it is now imperative to restore Pakistan’s political and legal system to its original ideological and constitutional direction envisioned at its creation.
