LAHORE: Actor Shamoon Abbasi has issued a response after his daughter, Anzela Abbasi, publicly referred to him as an “absent father”.
The comments emerged during a podcast in which Anzela, daughter of Shamoon and actress Javeria Abbasi, discussed her relationship with her parents and the dynamics of her upbringing. Her remarks quickly gained widespread attention, prompting Shamoon to address the matter through social media.
During the podcast, Anzela said that her father had been missing from most of her life. She explained that her mother had taken on both maternal and paternal responsibilities, which meant she never felt the absence of a father figure. Her reflections offered a candid insight into her childhood, drawing interest from both fans and the entertainment industry.
Anzela recounted that Javeria Abbasi managed the role of both parents and created an environment in which she never experienced emotional gaps. She noted that although her parents had maintained a respectful silence about one another in public, her personal experience was shaped by her mother’s presence and support.
Following the circulation of the podcast, Shamoon Abbasi responded on Facebook by posting photographs taken with his daughter at different points in their lives. He captioned the post “The Absent Father”, referencing the description Anzela had used. The images appeared to highlight moments they had shared, drawing a notable reaction online.
Although Shamoon and Javeria Abbasi have never openly criticised one another, speculation about tension between them had grown in recent years. Rumours intensified when Shamoon was absent from Anzela’s wedding, a detail that had already fuelled public curiosity about the family’s relationship before the latest revelations.
