More than 95,000 employment opportunities are likely to be generated across Pakistan in the next five to seven years, the Ministry of Planning has projected.
These jobs will stem from the implementation of major development projects underway across multiple sectors.
CDWP approvals, new development initiatives
According to official documents, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved 12 development projects in October 2025 alone.
These projects cover critical sectors such as energy, water, agriculture, governance, health, education, and others, reflecting broad national development priorities.
The Ministry of Planning further confirmed that six major development projects have already been forwarded to ECNEC for final approval.
From these major projects, an estimated 2,501 immediate new jobs are expected to be created.
PSDP funding: Rs330bn released so far
The government has approved the release of Rs330 billion out of the Rs1,000 billion Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) budget within the first four months of the fiscal year.
By October, the Ministry of Planning had already released 33% of the funds. During this period, more than Rs134 billion was utilized across various sectors.
Breakdown of development spending by sector
Infrastructure and Transport
- Out of the Rs626 billion infrastructure budget, Rs46 billion was spent by October.
- For transport and communication, Rs25.93 billion of the allocated Rs333 billion was utilized.
Energy Sector
- The energy sector recorded expenditures of Rs2.54 billion in four months.
- The total allocation for the current financial year stands at Rs122.65 billion.
Physical Planning and Housing
- Out of the Rs72.73 billion allocation, Rs4.69 billion has been spent so far.
Water Resources
- From the Rs97.9 billion allocated for water projects, Rs12.95 billion has been used.
Social Sector (Health, Education, Nutrition)
- The social sector received Rs169 billion, with mixed progress across departments.
- Education, including the Higher Education Commission (HEC), spent Rs8.97 billion from its Rs60.75 billion allocation.
- Health and nutrition saw very limited expenditure, with only Rs140 million used out of Rs16.84 billion granted.
Governance
- The governance sector was allocated Rs11.17 billion, of which Rs650 million has been spent.
Science and Technology
- Out of Rs37.59 billion, only Rs1.69 billion has been utilized so far.
Documents show that of the Rs25 billion allocated for foreign-funded development projects, Rs6.3 billion was spent in the first four months of the fiscal year.
