First Lady Aseefa Bhutto links Pakistan’s progress to girls’ empowerment

First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari has emphasised that Pakistan’s progress is inseparable from the education and empowerment of girls, calling on young women to pursue learning, develop skills, and take an active role in national life.

Addressing a Parents’ Day ceremony at a Cadet College for Girls, Nawab Shah, on Friday, she said the country’s future draws its strength from educated and confident youth.

Reiterating her message, she stressed that sustainable national development is only possible when girls are given equal opportunities to study and build skills.

She described Pakistan as a shared identity, saying the country’s security and stability are inseparable from that of its people.

Earlier, on December 14, the First Lady also issued a statement urging families, public representatives, and community leaders to actively support the nationwide polio vaccination campaign.

She said the success of the drive depends on collective responsibility and appealed to parents to ensure that every child under five years of age receives polio drops.

Highlighting the increased risk during the winter season, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari warned that the poliovirus spreads more rapidly in colder months and stressed that no child should be left unvaccinated.

She outlined that the campaign would include a three-day door-to-door vaccination effort followed by a catch-up day, while high-risk areas would see extended five-day operations with additional follow-up days.

The First Lady also called on elected representatives, local officials, religious leaders, and community elders to stand with vaccination teams, help them access communities, and counter misinformation and vaccine hesitancy.
