Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Thursday said that his party had successfully steered Sindh through major governance challenges by adopting a well-planned and comprehensive strategy during its tenure.
He noted that the provincial administration was introducing concrete measures aimed at improving performance across all sectors, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
Bilawal made these remarks while addressing a cabinet briefing on the Sindh government’s performance, held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.
He said the provincial leadership had placed special emphasis on strengthening the health sector, ensuring that quality treatment was accessible to the public.
Following a detailed briefing by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the PPP chairman outlined the provincial government’s overall performance and shed light on its future roadmap.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto said the Sindh government had transformed Jinnah Hospital into a facility that meets international medical standards.
Bilawal added that Sindh now hosts 30 universities and had established the Gambat Medical College in 2017 as part of its efforts to advance medical education.
He said the province had launched several poverty-alleviation initiatives and was offering loans under the Sindh Rural Support Programme to uplift low-income households.
The PPP chairman noted that the Benazir Hari Card had been introduced to support farmers and improve their economic well-being.
Reflecting on recent crises, Bilawal recalled that Sindh had faced unprecedented devastation during the 2022 floods.
He said the provincial government was now constructing 2.1 million houses for flood-affected families, describing it as the largest housing project currently underway in Sindh.
He noted that expensive cancer treatment was being provided free of cost to patients under the government’s initiatives.
He said the Sindh government had established 11 hospitals modelled on the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), adding that the NICVD network had treated 2.9 million patients in a single year.
Bilawal added that significant reforms had also been introduced in the education sector, including the merit-based recruitment of 100,000 teachers. A scholarship programme has also been launched for students across the province.
