Indian filmmaker and director Anurag Kashyap has spoken out after his name emerged in recently circulated documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
According to reports in Indian media, Kashyap has publicly refuted the online claims and made it clear that he has no connection with Epstein, who was convicted of sexual offenses.
The controversy centers on an email thread that has been shared on social platforms; that thread allegedly listed potential attendees for several international workshops, and Kashyap’s name is said to appear there.
Organizers reportedly mentioned a Bollywood actor and a prominent director in that email, which has prompted some people to associate the reference with Anurag Kashyap.
The workshops in question were described as covering topics such as medicine, technology and Buddhism, and it has been claimed that Kashyap was expected at an event in Beijing in 2017 tied to Epstein’s circle.
Kashyap dismissed these assertions as misleading and attention-seeking, stressing that he has never been to Beijing in his life.
He said he was surprised to see his name in the documents and insisted he had no knowledge of the email or any such gathering. While he acknowledged that he frequently receives professional invitations to attend events and workshops, he added that he rarely accepts or responds to them.
Kashyap maintained that there is no evidence linking him to Epstein’s alleged network.
Rejecting the allegations outright, he described the email as random and self-explanatory, and complained that sensational headlines using his name often overshadow his film work.
It is important to note that being named in the Epstein files does not automatically imply wrongdoing or criminal involvement.
The “Epstein files” refer to a large compilation of documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexual crimes and died in custody in 2019 and include travel records, emails, event invitations and references to numerous public figures.
The documents reportedly mention several high-profile names, including Donald Trump, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Bill Gates, among others.
