SJC decides to establish complaint system about missing persons

The National Judicial Policy-Making Committee of the Supreme Judicial Council has decided to establish a complaint system within two weeks against missing persons and arrested persons not being produced before a magistrate within 24 hours, it was reported on Wednesday.
The meeting, chaired by the Chief Justice, ordered the Attorney General to give a progress report on the legal framework related to enforced disappearances and arrests.
According to the declaration, the meeting took a number of important decisions on judicial reforms and the timely delivery of justice.
The performance of High Courts and District Judiciary was appreciated for the timely disposal of cases.
Guidelines on artificial intelligence for judicial institutions were also approved.
The meeting also decided to amend court rules for the implementation of e-filing in all districts.
The committee further decided to establish special benches for cases related to foreign arbitration awards in all High Courts.
FBR’s measures to discourage baseless appeals and screen unnecessary cases were appreciated.
From September 1, 2025, to January 15, 2026, the number of cases pending in High Courts is 12,54,780, and during this period, 7,54,06 cases were disposed of.
Almost all old cases before 2020 were disposed of in the Lahore High Court.
More than 69,000 cases were decided in model civil and criminal courts during four months.
The performance of the Islamabad High Court on prison reforms was appreciated.
High courts will have the authority to formulate their own procedures and security systems for the implementation of judicial artificial intelligence.
