Govt working on privatization of five Discos, says PC chairman

Adviser to Prime Minister and Privatization Commission (PC) Chairman Muhammad Ali said on Thursday that the government was working on the privatization of five power distribution companies (Discos).

Speaking to City 21, he said that Discos would be privatized in Islamabad, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Hyderabad and Sukkur.

He further said that investors would be invited for expressions of interest in March.

The adviser to PM informed that the government was presently working on 12 transactions, including two banks and three airports.

He said that it was only the Arif Habib Consortium that had the right to purchase the remaining shares in the PIA.

“The consortium will have to decide about it within 60 days and pay Rs45 billion,” PC chairman said.
