Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan (MWM) has strongly condemned the treatment meted out to members of parliament in Islamabad, describing it as a practical demonstration of the worst form of authoritarian rule.
In a statement issued on Saturday, MWM Central General Secretary Allama Hassan Zafar Naqvi said that such conduct by the authorities had not even been witnessed during past periods of martial law.
He alleged that the opposition leaders of both the National Assembly and the Senate have effectively been confined since yesterday, turning the Parliament House into what he termed a “detention center.”
Naqvi further stated that several senior politicians, including veteran leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Senator Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, are diabetic patients, yet their essential medications have allegedly not been allowed inside the Parliament House.
He described the denial of food and water for over 36 hours as a serious violation of fundamental human rights, warning that such actions would not go unaccounted for.
“The rulers must remember that every act of oppression will be held to account,” Naqvi said.
Referring to former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, Naqvi questioned why transferring him to a hospital had become such a contentious issue, asking what catastrophe could possibly result from providing medical care to a prisoner. He added that the entire system appeared fearful and panicked by a single incarcerated individual.
The statement was issued by the Media Cell of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan, calling on authorities to immediately restore constitutional norms and respect basic human rights.
