Punjab government announces price relief on oil, ghee for Ramadan

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced significant price relief on cooking oil and ghee during Ramadan.

Following the directives of Special Assistant Salma Butt, DG Punjab Food Authority Asim Javed met with ghee mill owners and agreed to a discount of Rs. 10 to Rs. 16 per kilogram on all ghee and oil packets throughout the holy month.

Salma Butt stated that high-quality and affordable ghee and oil will be available in the market during Ramadan.

She added that if palm oil prices decrease in the future, the industry authority will coordinate to provide immediate relief to consumers.

DG Asim Javed emphasized the need to introduce modern systems in the market to ensure quality ghee supply.

He highlighted cost-effective and advanced methods to reduce trans fatty acids and stated that the testing and quality processes are being updated to international standards.

Asjad Arif, Chairman of the Ghee Mills Association, praised the Punjab Food Authority for guiding the industry on quality improvements and implementing international SOPs across ghee mills.

He added that the association stands with the authority to eliminate adulteration and ensure an ample supply of high-quality ghee during Ramadan.
