8-year-old Aena Wazir from KP wows social media with Dale Steyn-style bowling

Aena Wazir, an 8-year-old cricket girl from North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has created a storm on social media with a video showcasing her impressive fast bowling skills, which closely resemble the technique of South African legend Dale Steyn.

The young bowler’s natural pace, rhythm, and composure have left cricket enthusiasts in awe, with many admiring her raw talent at such a young age.

Hailing from Shawal Tehsil in North Waziristan, Aena continues to pursue her passion for cricket despite facing numerous challenges, including limited access to proper training facilities and playgrounds.

However, her determination to improve and her enthusiasm to keep practicing have not wavered.

Aena dreams of one day donning the Pakistan women’s cricket team jersey and making her region—and her country—proud.

Inspired by Pakistani cricket stars like Babar Azam and Naseem Shah, Aena cites their performances as motivation to push herself harder in the sport.

Despite being a second-grade student, Aena is keenly aware of the struggles children in her area face, particularly the lack of quality educational institutions, proper playgrounds, and sports infrastructure.

She has urged the authorities to ensure provision of education and sports facilities, saying such measures can help young talent to represent Pakistan on the global stage.
