The Foreign Ministry (FM) of Russia has released a report on the political and security situation in Afghanistan in which it has been stated that there are 20,000 to 23,000 militants, including foreign militants, in Afghanistan, it was reported on Tuesday.
In its report, the Russian foreign ministry has said that the situation in Afghanistan has become a permanent threat to regional peace and stability.
It has been further stated that Al-Qaeda, East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), Daesh and other militant outfits are running training camps in Afghanistan, and that TTP is carrying out attacks on Pakistan from the Afghan soil due to which tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan are mounting.
Giving a breakup of the militants, the ministry has said that there are 3,000 militants who belong to Daesh, while five to seven thousand belong to the TTP.
It has also been disclosed that Afghanistan has become a hub of training for Al-Qaeda, which is also using the country to establish its ties with other militant outfits.
The militant outfit has its training camps in Ghazni, Laghman, Kunar, Nangarhar, Nooristan, Parwan and Uruzgan areas of the country.
On Daesh, the report has said that it has a solid network in the east and north of Afghanistan.
The long-term goal of the outfit, the report goes on to say, is to establish caliphate that extends into Central Asia.
The blast at a Chinese restaurant in Kabul in January 2026 is a proof of Daesh’s presence in the country, claims the Russian foreign ministry.
