Three people were killed and 23 others injured after an explosion in BOR Society in Lahore’s Johar Town, Punjab Inspector General Inam Ghani said Wednesday.
Punjab’s top cop claimed in a statement that he suspects “foreign hand” was involved in the attack.
Lahore CCPO Ghulam Muhammad Dogar told reporters that the investigators were trying to determine to nature of the blast. But he said it looks like a bomb blast.
A rickshaw was completely destroyed and motorcycles parked near the explosion were damaged in the explosion.
“We have seven critically injured patients and seven others received minor injuries,” Jinnah Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Yahya Sultan told SAMAA Digital. He added that the doctors found ball bearings in their bodies.
According to the doctors, five people are in critical condition.
Women, children among injured, says Lahore DC
Lahore’s Deputy Commissioner Mudassir Riaz Malik told reporters that women and children were among the injured. One policeman was injured too.
“The nature of blast is being ascertained,” said the deputy commissioner. “We will be able to give you a statement after the investigation.”
We will find out after an investigation whether it was a gas explosion or a planted blast, he said, adding that seven houses were also partially damaged.
Punjab Health Minister Yasmin Rashid said that injured people are in critical condition.
The MS of the Jinnah Hospital shared that pieces of ball bearings were found on the bodies of the injured.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has ordered authorities to ensure quality treatment of the injured people. He also summoned a report on the nature of the blast.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed has taken notice and summoned a report from the chief secretary and Punjab IG.
