Five BRG members nabbed in Karachi terror crackdown

The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested five members of the banned Baloch Republican Guard (BRG) on Friday. The suspects were reportedly planning an attack on Karachi’s railway tracks.

The arrests were made during a joint intelligence-based operation with the Rangers and federal intelligence agencies. The operation successfully disrupted the group’s planned attack.

The CTD said the group had previously carried out multiple low-intensity blasts in Jacobabad and Shikarpur. These attacks caused partial damage to railway tracks and train carriages. The BRG had claimed responsibility for the attacks on social media.

Explosives, improvised devices (IEDs), weapons, and ammunition were recovered from the suspects. During interrogation, they admitted to several attacks. These included a train bombing in Jacobabad on June 6, 2025, an explosion near Shikarpur railway station on July 28, 2025, the Jaffar Express attack on October 7, 2025, which injured seven people, and another blast near a railway track on January 26 this year.

The CTD revealed that the group received training in Lehri, Balochistan. Explosives were transported with the help of their families. This allowed them to avoid law enforcement authorities. A team has now been formed to arrest the facilitators and associates of the terrorists. Interrogations are ongoing. More revelations are expected.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sindh CTD, Azfar Mahesar, said the arrests were a major setback for the group. He claimed the BRG was receiving funding from India. He said the operation had exposed another terror network linked to the neighbouring country.
