The Punjab government has given a go-ahead for the establishment of Punjab Cybercrime Unit to eliminate harassment and blackmailing of children and women on social media.
These important decisions regarding cybercrimes were taken at a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Friday.
The meeting discussed that complaints can also be registered on the Cybercrime Unit Front Desk and the “PKM” app.
The meeting decided to enact legislation to punish the criminals and initial draft of the Punjab Online Safety Act 2026 will be presented soon.
Children and girls who are victims of blackmailing and harassment will not have to go to any police station or office to file a complaint.
Minor children and girls affected by social media blackmailing and harassment will go to the mobile unit to register their complaints.
Children, especially women, who are victims of social media harassment will also be able to file complaints at the virtual police station.
Punjab Police Cyber Patrol Wing and Cyber Police Academy will also be established.

Maryam Nawaz said cybercrime is a big challenge and we want to protect the new generation.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said technology and tools will be used to protect girls from blackmailing.
Parents should focus on limiting children’s use of social media, Maryam Nawaz advised.
She ordered digital crime against children and women must be stopped at all costs.
No one has the right to intrude on the privacy of others, Maryam Nawaz said.
She said government will set an example by bringing social media criminals to justice.
