What began as a lighthearted White House moment quickly escalated into an unusual and wide-ranging press interaction, as U.S. President Donald Trump addressed topics spanning fast food deliveries, Middle East tensions, and criticism of the Vatican.
The event opened with a promotional-style appearance involving a DoorDash delivery, where a driver handed the president two bags of McDonald’s meals inside the Oval Office. The moment, linked to a policy discussion on tax relief for tips, was intended to highlight economic benefits for service workers.
“Does this look staged?” Trump joked as he accepted the delivery from a worker identified as Sharon Simmons, a grandmother from Arkansas, according to DoorDash.
However, the tone shifted rapidly when reporters questioned him about a recently circulated AI-generated image posted on his Truth Social account that depicted him in a religious pose resembling Jesus. The post had already been deleted and drew public criticism following his earlier remarks targeting Pope Leo XIV over his stance on Iran.
When asked directly about the image, Trump acknowledged posting it but insisted it was misunderstood, suggesting he believed it depicted him in a medical role and referencing humanitarian symbolism. He also claimed the image reflected his broader message of “improving people’s lives.”
Attention then turned to escalating tensions with Iran, where ongoing disputes and policy decisions have heightened international concern. Trump reiterated that his administration’s position centers on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons and claimed Tehran is seeking renewed negotiations.
The press conference grew more unconventional when the DoorDash worker remained beside the president during questioning. Trump used the moment to ask her opinion on political issues, including his administration’s policies on transgender athletes in sports, though she declined to comment, stating she was focused only on the delivery promotion.
Reporters also shifted to lighter questions, including whether White House officials are generous tippers. Before the exchange ended, Trump reportedly produced cash from his pocket and handed a $100 bill to the delivery worker, joking that he had been reminded to tip.
The Vatican also entered the discussion, as Trump rejected the need for any apology to Pope Leo XIV, stating disagreement with the pontiff’s remarks on Iran and criticizing his views on related global issues.
