Russian missile and drone strikes kill 13 across Ukraine, cities hit hard

Russia launched a wave of missile and drone attacks overnight targeting Kyiv and several Ukrainian cities, killing at least 13 people, including a child, and injuring dozens, officials said Thursday.

In the capital Kyiv, authorities confirmed multiple deaths and widespread damage after residential areas were struck. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said four people, including a 12-year-old child, were killed in the city, while Ukraine’s emergency services later reported the toll had risen to five. Around 45 people were injured as explosions damaged apartment buildings and triggered large fires across several districts.

Officials said a low-flying drone struck an 18-storey residential building during a renewed morning attack, further worsening destruction. Rescue teams pulled survivors, including a mother and child, from heavily damaged structures. Debris from missiles also hit residential blocks in central areas of the city.

In southern Ukraine, Odesa came under multiple waves of missile and drone strikes, killing seven people and injuring 11, according to regional officials. Infrastructure facilities and housing were reported damaged.

In Dnipro, two people were killed and at least 27 injured, with several residential buildings set ablaze. Images shared by local authorities showed emergency crews battling fires and searching through rubble.

Officials in Kharkiv also reported drone strikes that left at least two people injured.

The attacks caused widespread destruction across multiple regions as emergency operations continued through the day.
