Senior journalist and political analyst Irshad Bhatti has responded to the growing controversy surrounding his recent podcast episode with film actress Meera, after the interview went viral for its personal and sensitive questions.
The episode sparked widespread debate on social media after Meera was seen uncomfortable with some questions related to her personal life and past relationships. During the recording, she reportedly chose not to answer certain questions and eventually left the session.
Following public criticism, Irshad Bhatti issued a detailed clarification explaining the behind-the-scenes situation of the podcast. He said the interview process was not straightforward and involved multiple scheduling issues before the final recording took place.
According to him, the production team had initially arranged a paid interview agreement with the actress. He claimed that despite the arrangement, Meera did not appear on the agreed date and postponed the session multiple times.
He further stated that on one occasion, she arrived very late at night when the technical team was no longer available, making recording impossible at that time. Eventually, the interview was shifted to a studio setting where the final podcast was recorded.
Irshad Bhatti maintained that the questions asked during the interview were not new or unexpected. He said the same topics had been discussed publicly in the past and that the actress was informed beforehand about the nature of the discussion.
He also added that Meera had agreed to address such topics and had later expressed willingness to appear in future discussions as well. He insisted that no personal boundaries were intentionally crossed during the conversation.
The journalist further said that he respects all individuals, including public figures, and did not intend to disrespect anyone during the interview. He emphasized that the discussion was focused on her public career and previously known controversies.
Irshad Bhatti also revealed that Meera appeared satisfied with the overall response the podcast received after its release, despite the public debate it generated.
He concluded by saying he is open to apologizing if anyone felt hurt by the content, but maintained that the interview remained within professional limits.
However, the clarification has not settled the controversy. Social media users have expressed strong criticism, questioning the tone and nature of the interview.
