Punjab security agencies move 203 Afghan nationals to holding centres

Punjab authorities are preparing to deport a further 203 Afghan citizens after they were moved to holding points by security agencies from different parts of the province, it was reported on Monday.

According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, the process of removing illegally residing foreign nationals is continuing across Punjab.

The spokesperson said Punjab Police had so far deported 34,545 foreign nationals, including Afghan citizens, from Lahore and other districts of the province.

The Punjab Police spokesperson said 203 illegally residing Afghan individuals were currently present at holding centres and were awaiting deportation.

The TV channel reported that the official figures showed that those already deported include 13,389 men, 6,963 women and 14,224 children.

The report added that among those removed were 10,771 people holding proof of residence documents, 11,131 carrying Afghan citizen cards, and 12,643 classified as illegally residing foreign nationals.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Abdul Karim said security remained on high alert across the province to ensure the departure of all unlawfully residing individuals.

The IG Punjab Police added that the Punjab Police were implementing the repatriation policy in accordance with international laws.
