The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a ban on the import of goods produced through forced labor. The decision was taken to align Pakistan’s trade practices with ethical and international labor standards.
The meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. Officials reviewed multiple economic and administrative matters.
The committee expressed satisfaction over improving economic indicators. It noted a continued decline in inflation. Prices of essential food items such as tomatoes, onions, wheat flour, garlic, and sugar are showing a downward trend.
Several financial and policy approvals were also made. The ECC approved a pilot project for the re-export of repaired vehicles and auto parts. This step is aimed at boosting trade activity.
It also approved proposals related to the export of donkey meat and hides from facilities in Gwadar. Officials said the move is part of expanding export-based economic opportunities.
A grant of 100 million rupees was approved for the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority. This funding is meant to support its administrative setup and operations.
The committee also approved a special allowance package for government officers posted in Balochistan. The package exceeds 3.1 billion rupees. It is aimed at improving governance in the province.
In another decision, 300 million rupees were approved as rewards for the national hockey team. The team recently qualified for the World Cup.
For institutional modernization, 372 million rupees were allocated to the National Accountability Bureau. The funds will be used for digital transformation and an AI-based system.
The ECC also approved around 6 billion rupees for the Pakistan International Airlines Holding Company. This amount will be used to pay salaries and pensions of employees.
Officials said the decisions are part of broader efforts to stabilize the economy, support institutions, and improve efficiency in public sector operations.
