Australia leads ICC rankings, Pakistan improves position

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its latest annual team rankings, with Australia maintaining its dominance in key formats. The Australian men’s team continues to hold the top position in Test cricket, while the women’s team remains number one in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

According to the updated rankings, matches played since May 2025 have been given full weight, while results from the previous two years carry a reduced value of 50 percent. This adjustment has led to some notable shifts in team standings.
In men’s Test rankings, Australia leads with 131 points, followed by South Africa in second place with 119 points. India has moved up one spot to third position with 104 points, while England has dropped to fourth with 102 points. England’s decline is mainly due to older series results—particularly against New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan—being removed from the rankings.

Pakistan has also shown improvement, climbing from seventh to sixth position after gaining seven additional rating points, reaching a total of 89. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka now holds seventh place, followed by West Indies in eighth and Bangladesh in ninth. Zimbabwe has improved to tenth position. Ireland has dropped out of the top ten due to not playing enough matches, and both Ireland and Afghanistan must play at least two Tests in the coming year to re-enter the rankings.

In women’s ODI rankings, Australia remains firmly at the top with 163 points, followed by England in second place. India, South Africa, and New Zealand occupy the next positions respectively, while Pakistan stands eighth.

The ICC is expected to release updated T20 and men’s ODI rankings later in May.
