Pakistan slip in WTC standings after Bangladesh shock defeat

Pakistan’s campaign in the ICC World Test Championship suffered a major setback after a disappointing defeat against Bangladesh in the opening Test, pushing Shan Masood’s side further down the standings and raising serious concerns about the team’s red-ball future.

The loss not only handed Bangladesh a memorable victory but also allowed the Tigers to leapfrog Pakistan in the latest World Test Championship rankings. Bangladesh now occupy sixth place with 44.44 percentage points, while Pakistan have slipped to seventh with just 33.33 percent.

The defeat has intensified criticism surrounding Pakistan’s inconsistent performances in Test cricket, particularly their fragile batting and lack of discipline in crucial moments. Despite entering the series with hopes of improving their WTC campaign, Pakistan failed to capitalize on key opportunities as Bangladesh outplayed them in all departments.

Bangladesh’s historic triumph sparked celebrations among fans and former cricketers, with many calling it another sign of the team’s growing maturity in the longer format. Their bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout the match, while the batting unit showed remarkable patience and confidence against Pakistan’s attack.

For Pakistan, however, the result has added pressure ahead of the remaining matches in the cycle. Cricket analysts believe the team now faces an uphill battle to stay alive in the race for the World Test Championship final. Questions are also being raised about team selection, bowling combinations, and the inability of senior players to deliver under pressure.

Meanwhile, Australia continue to dominate the WTC table with an impressive 87.50 percentage points. The defending champions have once again displayed consistency across conditions and remain favorites to qualify for the final.

New Zealand hold second place with 77.78 percent, while South Africa sit comfortably in third position with 75 percent. Sri Lanka occupy fourth place with 66.67 percent, showing steady progress in the championship race.

India, despite mixed performances, remain in contention at fifth place with 48.15 percentage points. Bangladesh’s rise to sixth has become one of the biggest talking points of the updated standings, while Pakistan’s slide has left fans frustrated and searching for answers.

With several crucial Tests still to come, Pakistan must now regroup quickly if they hope to revive their fading World Test Championship ambitions before the gap widens even further.
