TEHRAN: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran, where both sides discussed the evolving regional situation and ongoing diplomatic developments.
Pakistan has accelerated its diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting peace in the region. Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on an unannounced visit a day earlier, during which he also held meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior officials.
This marks the interior minister’s second visit to Tehran in less than a week, reflecting the growing intensity of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Following the conflict that erupted after the reported US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, Pakistan played an important mediatory role in efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire and facilitating negotiations. These diplomatic efforts were appreciated by US President Donald Trump, Iranian officials and several other countries.
As part of these mediation efforts, direct talks between the United States and Iran were held in Islamabad on April 11. Although the negotiations ended without an agreement, Pakistan has continued efforts to help secure a lasting ceasefire and facilitate progress toward a possible deal.
Officials say Mohsin Naqvi’s recent visits to Tehran are part of the same diplomatic initiative aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump stated that negotiations with Iran remain on the borderline between an agreement and renewed military action, warning that if satisfactory responses are not received, developments could move rapidly.
He added that a deal could be reached very soon or within days, but stressed that Tehran would have to provide what he described as “100 percent correct answers.”
On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran has received the American position and is currently reviewing it. He reiterated Iran’s demands regarding the release of frozen assets and the lifting of what he described as the US blockade on Iranian ports.
